Ladislav Železný

METACURATOR

Ladislav Železný is a sound and listening nerd, musician, curator and audiovisual artist. He aims at various forms of acoustic art. As one of the authors he participated in the Lemurie TAZ radio broadcast, which is connected with the beginnings of the experimental space ROXY/NoD. He works at Czech Radio as a dramaturge focusing on unconventional music and experimental radio production. His projects and compositions related to radio creation were given numerous awards in the Czech Republic and Europe.

Tomáš Vtípil

SOUND SUPERVISOR

Tomáš Vtípil is a Czech composer, multi-instrumentalist, and sound producer known for his experimental approach to music. His work spans acoustic and electronic music, often blending glitch elements and unconventional sounds, particularly with his violin, which he uses rhythmically as well as melodically. Vtípil has collaborated across generations and genres, working with groups like DG 307 and artists such as Monika Načeva. His film and stage compositions, including scores for Pouta and Lidi krve, have earned critical acclaim, as has his innovative live performance style. Whether with orchestras, underground ensembles, or solo projects, Vtípil seeks to explore the unity within musical diversity.

Margherita Brillada

SONOLOGY ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR, CURATOR

Margherita Brillada is a sound artist, radio curator, and researcher based in The Hague. A research associate at the Institute of Sonology and a PhD candidate at Leiden University, her project Re-thinking Radio Art: Community Radio and WebRadio explores radio as a space for experimental sound art and develops a “radio poetics” based on sound’s unique qualities. She creates immersive soundscapes using multichannel systems to engage audiences with social issues. Currently, she is developing the experimental radio project On Air – On Site, in collaboration with the Institute of Sonology and Cashmere Radio.

Martin Hurych

CURATOR

A sound artist, architect, and curator based in The Hague (NL) and Lubná (CZ). He works with field and documentary recordings, makes codes and synths, creates installations and platforms. The artist is known for a certain amount of exaggeration and warm humor, but at the same time he is sensitive to social problems. As a curator, he collaborates with a young generation of artists moving across genres of visual art, film, sound art, and music. Hurych is a organizer of the Bučení festival and a co-founder and curator of the Přespolní association, organizing a cultural programme in the countryside of the Czech Republic (since 2017). He is also currently a research associate at the Institute of Sonology (since 2022).

Justin Bennett

Justin Bennett teaches at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague and is a member of Jubilee in Brussels. His work blends visual arts and music, focusing on public space, architecture, and urban development. Bennett uses sound to explore and reinterpret these spaces, creating installations, audio walks, and performances that combine sound, video, drawings, and text. His recent research investigates how different media, such as maps, mobile technology, and headphone listening, shape our experience of the city. He collaborates with artists and architects and delves into the historical and philosophical aspects of urban space.

Grzegorz Karnas

VOICINGERS ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR, CURATOR

Grzegorz Karnas is a Polish jazz vocalist, music producer and polyglot. He has worked with top European jazz artists and won multiple awards, including first prizes at the Young Jazz Singers Competition in Bruxelles (2006) and the Crest Jazz Vocal competition in France (2007). His debut album Reinkarnasja (2000) launched his career, followed by Sny/Dreams of a Ninth Floor (2004) and Ballads for the End of the World (2006). Karnas is also the founder and artistic director of the Voicingers Festival (2008) and teaches improvisation worldwide.

Mery Zimny

CURATOR

Mery Zimny is a journalist, PR specialist, and music event curator, currently managing communication for JAZZKULTURA radio. She co-founded the station, where she hosts music programs and organizes jazz events. Mery writes for Jazz Forum and other music magazines, and worked with Polish and international music festivals as a journalist and panelist. She holds a degree in History and Contemporary Culture from Jagiellonian University and is passionate about jazz, flamenco and literature.

Ján Sudzina

CURATOR

Jan Sudzina, founder and director of the international music brand Hevhetia (since 2001), also publishes the magazine Hudba. He launched the Summer Music Festival Hevhetia in 2011, which became international in 2015, spanning Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and France. From 2011–2014, he was Executive Director of the European Capital of Culture 2013 (Košice) and is now involved in the Trenčín EHMK project for 2026. An economist by education, he also works in real estate development, organizes the Košice Marathon, and has been its club president since 2016. Additionally, he practices extended fasting for physical and spiritual renewal.

Philipp Moser

PROGRAMMER

Philipp Moser is the drummer of the renowned band Spinifex, with which he has been working and touring for over 10 years. In addition to performing music, he also works in recording, mixing, and mastering, and his interest in the technical side of things is reflected in software development. Philipp is the creator of The Hayward Tuning Vine, a software for just intonation that makes harmonic space audible and visualizable. At UFMC, he is responsible for the development of the frontend part of the UFMC player web application.

After previous experiences with pan-European projects under the European Union and Young Europe, the UFMC project represented a synthesis of both worlds for her.

Miloš Vojtěchovský

CURATOR

Miloš Vojtěchovský (born April 15, 1955, Prague) is a Czech artist, theorist, critic, and educator in the fields of computer art, graphics, audiovisual art, and experimental music. He studied aesthetics and art history at Charles University and worked as a curator at the National Gallery in Prague. From 1991 to 1995, he lived and lectured in Amsterdam and New York. Since 2004, he has taught at FAMU in Prague, where he co-founded the Institute of Intermedia. He is the author of several multimedia projects and publications, including Orbis Pictus Revised and Colorum Natura Variae, and contributed to the creation of the project Nejmilejší zvuky Prahy.

Pinheiro graduated in Cinema (Lisbon, 2008) and holds a Master of Music in Sonology (The Hague, 2012), where she has been a guest lecturer since the She teaches sound at CAS – FAMU, Prague, since 2013. Her academic work is practice-based research under the name of “Acousmatic Foley”. She is currently a PhD student at The School of Music and Media, in Bangor University (UK), under the Parry Williams scholarship.

Stefan Raczkowski

CURATOR

Stefan Raczkowski graduated in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in classical percussion from the Academy of Music in Krakow, and later earned a master's in jazz at the Academy of Music in Katowice. He is a laureate of several national and international competitions and has performed at festivals in Poland and abroad. A recipient of multiple scholarships, Stefan has performed with various bands, including a 2019 tour in China with the Paweł Kaczmarczyk Trio. In 2020, he taught at the African Music School in the Central African Republic. He later founded the project "superminimalism" and received the "Młoda Polska" scholarship. Apart from music, he is also involved in fine arts.

Hague-based London-born composer, improviser, synth designer and writer. You can expect microtonal synth nerdery, well-disguised bad singing, textural plunderphonics, arhythmic breaks and blown out kicks. Recently they have been rethinking everything through a cybernetic lens and so they are now more annoying to talk to but at least their methods of synth patching are more efficient at crunching complexity.

Julius Fujak

Július Fujak (1966) is a scholar, a semiotician of music, an experimental composer, and multi-instrumentalist. His compositions and intermedia projects were performed and broadcast in many countries in Europe, the USA, and China. For twenty years, he has organized the international series and festivals of contemporary, unconventional music and intermedia art Hermes’ Ear in Nitra and PostmutArt. He lectures at the Faculty of Arts, Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra (since 1966). Having just a joy & insight in sound: as an unconventional composer/comproviser creating various musical-sonic situations (in field recordings including), and as a semiotician/aesthetic scholar reflecting existentially semantic, cultural, and socio-political dimensions of sonic environments.

Born 1989 in Turnov, currently stable in Brno. I focus on sound art in the context of environmental change, sound ecology, field recordings, deep listening, perception and interpretation of the sound environment. I create sound objects, spatial site-specific installations and interventions, and sound compositions. I perceive sound as a space of time, as a permanent continuum from the Big Bang to the present, as a constantly changing phenomenon.

Evelina Protektore

CURATOR

Evilena Protektore is a Latvian jazz singer and composer, graduated from the Jazz Department of the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music. She has studied in Italy and Germany and participated in international festivals like Pori Jazz and Limassol Jazz. Evilena is also the leader and vocalist of the Latvian funk band Pieneņu Vīns and a member of the jazz project JAZZATOMY. In 2016, she received the Nic Gotham Prize for her contributions to Latvian jazz.

Andrejs Poikāns

CURATOR

Andrejs Poikāns is an artist and researcher from Riga, Latvia. He works with sound. Mainly this manifests through the creation of idiosyncratic computer programs: sometimes for sound synthesis presented through the form of a concert or a composition, at other times it results in a performative lecture, or a script for scheduling long durational text-based instructions for an audience to engage with either using the calendar or the universal clock as a reference. As a researcher he is fascinated by the topics of psychoanalysis of listening, algorithmic music and philosophy of language. Andrejs is currently based in Berlin, Germany. He regularly performs live computer music and occasionally makes sound for theatre. He enjoys writing on a daily basis, usually diary entries.

George Cremaschi

Geroge Cremaschi was born in New York, where he also studied music, composition and double bass. He has written compositions for dancers, installation artists, improvisers, poets, film, radio, theatre, orchestras, and has also performed with many of them. He has collaborated with many outstanding artists and has performed on over 50 recordings. He currently lives in Prague, where he founded the Prague Improvisation Orchestra and where he teaches, among other things, at FAMU.

Eliška Vidomus is a singer, composer and journalist. She is interested in various musical fusions based mostly on jazz. In 2009, she founded the band Fanfán Tulipán, for which she composes music at the edge of jazz, funk and film music.

Ivan Palacký

Musician and architect. He has been a free improviser for over two decades and enjoys short-term projects as well as playing solo. His work embraces various prepared instruments, fans, the amplified single knitting machine Dopleta 160, as well as the electric guitar. He has played in many bands such as Sledě živé sledě, Tílko, Výkřiky břich, and currently with the band Pátí na světě.
